6 UPND cadres nabbed for straying into presidential lodge
Six United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres in Kitwe have been arrested and charged with criminal trespass after they strayed into the Presidential lodge premises. Meanwhile, four of the 18 UPND cadres who were apprehended in Ndola on Tuesday have been released after paying admission of guilt fine. Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga said in an interview yesterday that the six suspected UPND cadres were arrested for trespassing Kitwe`s Presidential state lodge on Tuesday afternoon. In the Ndola case, Ms Katanga revealed that eighteen UPND supporters were charged with conduct likely to cause breach of peace, but four of them had been released after paying admission of guilt. “Four of the eighteen cadres who were apprehended yesterday (Tuesday) for conduct likely to cause breach of peace have been released after paying admission of guilt,” she said. Ms Katanga noted that the cadres intended to cause confusion by going closer to the police Copperbelt division where UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema was being interrogated. She explained that police had issued strict instructions that cadres should not get anywhere near the police premises and the UPND leadership had agreed. But the UPND cadres went against police instructions, thus leading to their arrest. Ms Katanga reiterated the need for political party leaders to tame their cadres for peace and sanity to prevail.
