LUNGU, HH MEETING WINS MORE KUDOS

- By AARON CHIYANZO

THE unanticipated cordial meeting between President Edgar Lungu and UPND president Hakainde Hichilema which was facilitated by church has won more praises. Many believe that the now friendly relations between the two political leaders assure of a brighter future for Zambia. Veteran politician, Vernon Mwaanga said that his faith had been renewed upon learning of the private meeting on November 12, 2018 between President Lungu and Mr Hichilema. Mr Mwaanga said in a statement that it had been his firmly held belief expressed directly to the two leaders that they needed to meet and discuss the many problems the country was facing. “By meeting under the watchful eye of the church mother bodies, they have demonstrated great maturity and put the interests of our country above self. They have made me proud of my country,” he said. Mr Mwaanga said he hoped that the two leaders would meet more often going forward and begin to develop trust and confidence in each other. He reiterated that President Lungu and Mr Hichilema had demonstrated leadership, which he hoped would be emulated by their officials and supporters. “Supporters must be made to understand that politics is not war, that Zambia belongs to all Zambians and that even when we disagree on certain issues, we should do so in a respectful manner, without being disagreeable, devoid of hatred and ill temper,” Mr Mwaanga said. And Chief Luchembe of Mpika said that the meeting between the two leaders was a sign of patriotism and love for the well-being of the country. He said in an interview that the meeting also gave Zambians hope that the much awaited national dialogue would soon come to pass. Chief Luchembe said that the move should be welcomed and supported by all peace loving Zambians. Meanwhile, Southern Province Patriotic Front information and publicity secretary Trymore Mwenda termed the meeting as a festive season gift to the people of Zambia. “With this initial meeting of our two leaders we expect a change in tone of the language from some opposition leaders who have day-in-day-out been casting scorn and insults on the PF leadership,” he said. Mr Mwenda said that the ruling party in Southern Province had endorsed with full support the path of reconciliation and national building the President had taken and urged Zambians to resist forces of destruction and enemies of peace and oneness.
