… Law enforcement urged to name the thieves

THIEVES who plundered parastatal companies during privatisation and deliberately disadvantaged the country while benefitting directly or indirectly, should be exposed and the sale nullified, an opposition leader has demanded.
Zambian Republican Party (ZRP) president Wright Musoma has demanded that investigations should be instituted how those entrusted with the sale of parastatal companies sold to some of their proxies with low bids leaving out those who pledged more.
Mr. Musoma questioned why the former Intercontinental Hotel in Livingstone was sold at $ 5 million when other bidders had offered as much as $20 million.
He said that former second republican President Fredrick Chiluba had been vilified by the same people who benefitted from privatization after being entrusted with the exercise on behalf of citizens.
The opposition leader was commenting on President Edgar Lungu’s remarks while he was in Kasama of Northern Province that detractors who sold parastatal companies at giveaway prices and later acquired massive shares in the same companies through proxies, were thieves who wanted to divert attention by alleging that government had sold ZAFFICO.
Mr Musoma said he was happy that the Head of State had informed citizens on what transpired over the sale.
He said it was sad that people were so desperate to assume the reins of power that they had resorted to spreading falsehoods.
He claimed that the same desperate leaders owed colossal sums of money to imperialists to who had been sponsoring their futile election bids.
“As Zambia Republican Party we have always said that this man does not mean well for Zambia and these are criminals who will even sale Zambia and not the falsehoods they are telling us that Government has sold ZNBC,” he said.
He said investigative wings such as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) should be proactive and thoroughly investigate the issue.
The Head of State said those making the loudest cries that government had sold ZAFFICO, were the thieves who sold parastatal companies for a penny and were not acting out just to distract government from doing its work.
