Robber jailed 30 years K89,000

A MAN of Kitwe has been sentenced to 30 years imprisonment for snatching a vehicle, laptop and three phones from a motorist whom he injured severely.

The robber attacked Mr Chanzya Sinyangwe using an iron bar before getting away with the vehicle and other items on October 22, 2016.
Mr Sinyangwe was left severely injured and was rushed to the hospital where he was admitted for some days.
Livingstone High court judge in-charge Chilombo Maka-Phiri sitting in Kitwe sentenced Mwaba to 30 years after she found him guilty of aggravated robbery.
Ms Justice Phiri said when passing the sentence that the offence was too serious.
The judge said Mwaba was very brutal as he had left his victim with severe injuries who was even hospitalised for some time which was an aggravating circumstance and attracted a tougher sentence.
"The offence is a very serious in that the convict was brutal. The victim was severely injured and was hospitalised so this violent act is an aggravating circumstance.
I therefore I sentence you to 30 years imprisonment with hard labour," she said.
On October 22, 2016 Mwaba around 02:00 while armed with an iron bar attacked Mr Sinyangwe who was driving home.
He snatched the vehicle and other valuable items and left Mr Sinyangwe badly injured.
