Zambian DNA hail Lungu/HH meeting

- By NATION REPORTER

The landmark meeting between President Edgar Lungu and UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema facilitated by three Church mother bodies is commendable, says the Zambian DNA Spokesperson Spuki Mulemwa.

Mr Mulemwa said, however, was that it was unfortunate that the Church did not offer wise counsel to opposition leader for suspending his party member, Kafue Council Chairperson Thomas Zulu, for attending a function officiated by President Edgar Lungu.

Mr Mulemwa in a statement issued to Daily Nation yesterday said it was disturbing that the UPND leadership could suspend Mr Zulu for merely attending the Keep Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy campaign in Kafue district where President Lungu was a guest of honour.

Mr Mulemwa observed that it was right for Mr Hichilema to meet President Lungu and not any other UPND officials to meet the Head of State.

He said while it was not in Zambian DNA‘s interest to meddle in the political party’s disciplinary code of conduct, the party was of the view that the UPND leadership should lift the suspension of the said leader with immediate effect as a gesture of reconciliation towards national dialogue process.

“We expect the clergy to prevail on Mr Hichilema so that UPND lifts suspension of the said leader in an effort to facilitate the much-anticipated national dialogue process in a peaceful atmosphere,” Mr Mulemwa said.

Mr Mulemwa said the UPND Leadership should realise that the suspended Kafue Council Chairperson did not commit any offence by taking part in the clean-up exercise.
