Kasama installs 3, 800 pre-paid water meters

- By BENNIE MUNDANDO

“WE have installed 3,800 water prepaid metres to our customers and this has also helped us recoup the money owed to us as we have attached a recovery percentage for every purchase made,” Chambeshi Water and Sewerage Company commercial manager Kelvin Mwanino has said.

Speaking in an interview in Kasama yesterday, Mr. Mwanino said the installation of prepaid metres had not only helped the company to collect debt it was owed, but had also helped consumers to manage water consumption.

“We have installed 3,800 water prepaid metres in Kasama and the project is also ongoing in Nakonde and this has reduced complaints from customers because they are able to manage the water consumption.

“We are also using them (water prepaid metres) to recover part of the debt that was owed by customers.

We have defined some of the customers that have owed us money on the system with a 40 percent recovery from every purchase that they make,” Mr. Mwanino said.

He also disclosed that the company’s modular plant would be commissioned soon and that feasibility studies on the AfDB funded project would commence soon.

“We have the modular treatment plant that we have installed and are about to commission.

We are one of the AfDB financial benefiters and the project is running in Kasama, Mpika, Nakonde, and Mbala.

“Currently, we are doing the sensitization and the team is going around.
