Netballers game for Diamond Cup

- By MICHAEL MIYOBA

THE Netball Association of Zambia (NAZ) says it will use the Diamond Challenge Netball Tournament to be held in South Africa to give the players promoted from the under-21 team the exposure they need for their development.

Speaking in an interview, NAZ General Secretary Prichard Ngoma said the exposure was critical for the growth of players especially those squeezed into the senior team from the junior team.

Ngoma said NAZ would use the championship in South Africa to build a formidable netball team which would bring glory to Zambia.

“Obviously we all want to win but we have to be realistic, we have a new coach and we have several players from the under-21 squad who have joined the senior team so I think it is a question of building trying to work on the lapses we noticed during the qualifiers and this is not going to be done within one championship, it’s going to be a process.

“Exposure to the players is also good especially for the players who have joined the senior team. We are also aiming at raising our ratings for the rankings,” Ngoma said. Ngoma said that the association did not face any major problems preparing the team which to compete at the Diamond Challenge championship which would feature a total of six countries.

Meanwhile, the Zambia national netball team left for South Africa yesterday for the tournament to be held from November 27 to December 1, 2018.

Exposure to the players is also good especially for the players who have joined the senior team.
