Harry Kalaba’s bad political dreams

-

Dear Editor, I WISH to agree more with Mr Edward Mumbi, the former UPND presidential spokesperson who recently and aptly advised our former Minister of Foreign Affairs Harry Kalaba to simply return to the Patriotic Front.

This comes in the wake of the party which had sponsored him to stand on its ticket in the 2021 presidential race, the Democratic Party (DP) last week dissolved itself and joined the ruling PF.

Obviously, this is a big political blow to Mr Kalaba who has been left stranded in the middle of the road without any political life in him.

It is quite possible that Mr Kalaba was wrongly advised to quit and try his hand at State House as republican president.

Mr Kalaba was certainly following his dreams of becoming president of the Republic of Zambia in 2021. Yes, there is this thing about “Following your dreams” because dreams keep us motivated, working toward something.

Dreams have no limits. But they can let you down sometimes, and not all dreams are always worth pursuing.

I suspect Mr Kalaba’s dreams were fuelled by his close friend Prophet Bushiri who probably saw him (Kalaba) sitting in State House.

But from what has happened, Mr Kalaba should either swallow his pride and go back to PF or continue chasing the wind which is a much easier choice because of the arrogance that is always in man. Yes, Mr Kalaba has every right to contest the presidency of Zambia but he should have intelligently weighed the time and openings before plunging into the unknown as he has done.

Soon both Bahati and Roan constituencies will be declared vacant and I doubt if Mr Kalaba can recapture Bahati under whatever party that may wish to adopt him as he is currently without any political party.

And I think the same is true of Mr Chishimba Kambwili whose political career does not look that encouraging.

The two men can now wait for the worst to happen to them because they have certainly reached the dead end of their political dreams.

It always happens.

DAVID MBAKALUNGU.
