BE FIRM ON KAMBWILI, POLICE TOLD

-

Dear Editor,

IHEARD on the news that Chishimba Kambwili may not attend Police interviews tomorrow because he has a court appearance on Friday in Lusaka. This is nonsense. The Police must be very firm with this man who thinks he can say anything at anytime and get away with it.

Even the lawyers who are trying to find a way out for him must not be allowed to make fools of the Police as they have done before when they have seriously colluded by supporting the pretence of illness.

Kambwili had admitted that he faints at the thought of prison because his body is not meant for such environments.

His call out was for Thursday and he must appear on that day. Allowing anything else will be condoning impunity and against the rule of law.

I expect that the Police will be absolutely firm and if he does not show up, he must be arrested tomorrow and driven to Luanshya where he must answer the police call out.

This man thinks he is above the law, a situation which must not be allowed in our country. No person, however powerful should be allowed to put state matters behind personal interest and preservation. This is a country of laws.

It is also important that the Police do not allow the nonsense of these miscreants being escorted to the station for questioning. Offences are committed by individuals who should be held personally accountable instead of creating uncalled for public disturbance and confrontation.

If Police continue to allow these escorts the end result will be quite disastrous because violence could erupt which in turn could lead to the loss of life and property.

I will not be surprised if indeed that is what the likes of Chishimba Kambwili would like to see so that they are made heroes instead of villains that they are.

All eyes will be on Luanshya to see the man who think that this country has no President and that President Edgar Lungu who is at State House is just a figure head to be insulted and demeaned in every way possible.

Time has come for Kambwili to be taken to task for his utterances to let him realise and appreciate that freedom is nothing if it does not respect the dignity and worth of other people.
