Chipembi Secondary School gets two new dormitories

- By LINDA SOKO TEMBO

PUPILS at Chipembi Secondary School should remain focused and refrain from negative activitiess that can distract them from education, says United Church of Zambia (UCZ) general secretary Peggy Kabonde.

Reverend Dr Kabonde said the girls should not be cheated because without education they would be nothing in life.

She was speaking at the blessing inauguration ceremony of two dormitories at the school that had been named after her because she was the first ever elected female General Secretary of UCZ and woman Reverend to hold the highest professional qualification of a PHD.

Dr Kabonde said she was aware that girls faced several challenges in learning institutions such as unconducive environment which forced some girls to drop out of school.

“All these efforts will be in vain if facilities that will enable the girls to learn are not available,

“Therefore the coming of these dormitories at the school is commendable and I appeal to the girls to guard the facilities jealously,” she said.

Dr Kabonde said it was also very important to help girls realise their full potential in their adulthood by addressing obstacles that hindered their emancipation such as imbalances in education opportunities, gender based violence, early marriages and other abuses. She said empowering a woly the girls.

Meanwhile the school head teacher Mr Albert Chituka said the construction of the two dormitories at a cost of K292, 243.00 including an ablution block would greatly decongest the overcrowded dormitories, leading to a conducive sleeping environment for the girls.
