ZAVA counsels Zone six games reps
THE Zambia Volleyball Association, (ZAVA) has urged teams representing the country at the 2018 Confederations of African Volleyball zone six club championships to to make their presence felt.
Speaking in an interview, ZAVA Vice president of finance Kwasi Masole said that there is need for Champions Chalube, 2018 Women’s National Champions Super Select and Nkwazi who are ranked 3rd in Zambia to do better than they did last year.
Masole noted that the tournament is important because it will see the best performers being awarded with scholarships to study abroad.
He expressed sadness that Kamwala Magic, Indeni and Green Eagles have failed to travel for the Durban showpiece due to numerous challenges the clubs are facing.
“The championship presents an opportunity for some players to earn scholarships when they play well which is why they need to play well,” Masole said.
“Kamwala Magic Indeni and Eagles had qualified for the same tournament but with eagles the association doesn’t know the challenges as to why they have failed to travel but for Kamwala Magic, there players were writing exams while Indeni informed the association that they couldn’t travel because they had other commitments.”
The 2018 Women’s National Champions Select and men’s 3rd ranked team Nkwazi left Lusaka for Durban, South Africa on Wednesday.
Super Select who will be playing in their second ever tournament believe that they have prepared well enough to finish past their 2017 quarter finals performance. Select have a relatively young team and will look to the likes of Isabel Mudenda, Chilombo Kaumba, Kalaba Annie and Tembo Tania who have experienced more international outings than the rest of their team mates to deliver. Nkwazi on the other hand have played more international games than any other club since 2012.
Head coach Arnold Simulezi is certain of a decent performance despite the commission of star man Francis Munene who is being reserved for the 2019 volleyball season.
