Structures on railway land to be demolished, says Lubinda

-

ALL those who built houses within the 50 metre radius from the rail line in Lusaka’s Kamulanga ward 9 will not be issued with certificates of title and risk demolition, Kabwata Member of Parliament Given Lubinda has warned.

Mr Lubinda emphasised those developers whose buildings were within 50 meters from the railway line risked demolition. Speaking on Saturday during a public meeting to discuss the issuance of certificates of title under the national titling programme, Mr. Lubinda thanked those who adhered to his call made in 2008 not to put structures in the rail way reserve.

“It is now time for those who took my advice to receive their certificate of title but those who went against the advice that was given and built closer to the railway line will not be given titles and risk having their structures demolished,” Mr Lubinda said.

Mr Lubinda advised developers who had put up structures close to the railway line to start looking for land elsewhere. Kamulanga area was initially Zambia Railways land that had been encroached on. However, with the intervention of the civic leaders in the area, Government was in the process of regularizing it.

The area would now be a planned settlement with a clinic, schools and roads but Government has maintained that it will not regularise houses that were built within a 50-metre radius.
