N/WEST POLICE COMMAND REGRETS COP’S SHOOTING INCIDENT
THE police command in North Western Province has regretted a recent shooting incident involving a police officer in Solwezi in which one person died while another was injured.
Provincial Commissioner of police, Hudson Namachila said the command does not take pleasure in the use of firearms under any circumstances and has urged all officers to exercise maximum restraint when under pressure.
‘’I call upon all officers to stick to the rules of engagement for the discharge of firearms, and instill a sense of confidence and security to the general public,’’ he said.
Mr Namachila was speaking during this year’s North Western division annual ball in Solwezi.
He also urged the public to exercise civility, self-restraint and respect the law and obey directives of law enforcement officers during moments of mob agitation.
‘’We are all responsible for the maintenance of law, peace and order in our society. So, when we have difference, let’s resolve them amicably,’’ he said.
He also saluted police officers for braving all the challenges of the year some of whom sustained life-threatening injuries in line of duty.
And gracing the event, Provincial permanent secretary, Ephraim Mateyo, in a speech read by Kasempa District Commissioner, Goodson Sansakuwa, thanked President Edgar Lungu for the support he has been giving to the police through the Inspector General of Police.
Recently a police Officer in Solwezi shot dead a suspect who attempted to escape after being arrested for allegedly attending driving lessons for another person.
