‘Private sector will continue to thrive’
GOVERNMENT will continue to foster a conducive and favourable business environment for both local and foreign investors, says Vice President Inonge Wina.
Ms Wina said Government valued the role of the private sector in the economy as it could not achieve everything singlehandedly.
She said for that reason Zambia had remained one of Africa’s best destinations for investment.
The Vice President said this at the Zambia Association Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) gala dinner and award presentation.
The speech was delivered by Minister in the Vice-President’s office, Sylvia Chalikosa at the weekend. Ms Wina encouraged business firms to go beyond their corporate social responsibility (CSR) to help reduce poverty levels in Zambia.
The main sponsor of the event was Fairy Bottling while Zambian Breweries (ZB) and Roland Imperial Tobacco Company Limited were gold sponsors. ZB emerged the best in the fight against HIV while Lubambe Copper Mines won the business leader in the environment category. The best entrepreneur of the year award went to Karen Nakawala.
ZACCI president Michael Nyirenda prodded the government to ensure a stable and predictable business environment.
Mr Nyirenda said abrupt changes in policies could negatively impact on business.
He urged Government to continue engaging the private sector on the proposed reintroduction of sales tax.
