Kids gloves for Chishimba Kambwili
Dear Editor
Why are our Lusaka courts so slow in dealing with contentious political cases?
Our courts seem to be treating Kambwili with kids gloves, only Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Katanga has shown Kambwili that he is not above the law.
Now the law must take its place in this battle for integrity.
Magistrate Zulu who tried the rhino killers of Livingstone completed the case in just ten days, starting from trial, defence and finally conviction.
The same cannot be said about cases involving Chishimba Kambwili which seem to go on and on without end and yet the facts are readily available and I am sure the investigations must have been concluded before commencement of trial.
These delays are making the man feel invincible and therefore able to talk without any form of restraint because understands that any case brought against him will take years to be concluded.
It is even more shocking that the higher courts which are handling Kambwili’s affiliation re also taking their time while the speaker appears impotent in the absence of a ruling from the court.
Surely these institutions should be able to react in real time to obviate and remove the kind of problems we are presently facing where a man with numerous criminal and civil cases can so brazenly speak out insulting Government leaders.
A lot of damage is being done to important governance institutions which seem unable to bring a member of society into order.
Justice must not only be done but must actually be seen to have been done, which is not the case at the moment where people who are clearly in violation of the law are able to speak with such impunity.
The cases that Kambwili is facing are quite serious and must be dealt with expeditiously to either convict or acquit him rather that remaining in limbo which he is abusing everyday with outrageous statement which are finding space in some media houses which have nothing good to say about this country.
