Xenophobic attacks on Chinese very unfortunate

- P.E. LUSAKA.

Dear Editor,

THE Chinese nationals were recently attacked by some Zambians on the Copperbelt.

This action is very unfortunate and it should be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

The Chinese and investors in particular were targeted. The gist of the matter is that some of these Chinese adhere to the Zambian laws.

Then, why should the Chinese be attacked on the basis of nationalist? We have some Zambians in China who are there for various reasons.

In my considered view, I few it won’t be a good thing if Zambians in China can be attacked through xenophobia as the case was with the Chinese on the Copperbelt.

Whoever was behind inciting some Zambians to attack the Chinese through xenophobia on the Copperbelt in recent past should be arrested to face the full wrath of the law.

One thing for a fact is that Zambia has greatly benefitted from China.

This is because the latter has assisted the former in various sectors such as education, agriculture, financial and material aid among others.

If not properly checked, this trend can affect the bilateral relationship between the two countries which has existed for several decades.

All said and done, xenophobic attack on foreigners is not right.

This is because Zambia is known globally as a beacon of peace in that we reveive foreign nationals with the dignity they deserve as our fellow human beings.
