ZESCO to be hub for power in the region
LUSAKA mayor Miles Sampa says ZESCOs vision is to be the hub for electricity in the region by 2025 and make it easy for people to live a better life.
Speaking when he officiated at the ZESCO community sensitisation meeting in Matero, Mr Sampa said that the company placed great emphasis on increasing the generation capacity through the development of power generation sources in various parts of the country whilst improving its transmission network to transport the bulk electricity to various load centers and extending distribution lines for better access to the population and improved service delivery.
He said that ZESCO had embarked on a sensitisation campaign which focused on updating and educating its customers on issues concerning the misconceptions on the tariff adjustments, security of supply ,energy mix, safety issues, power outages and vandalism.
“The need for such a meeting therefore, cannot be overemphasized. The purpose of this meeting is that we the customers of matero and indeed many other parts of Lusaka and the country at large, are well informed on ZESCO’s operations,
“It is also an opportunity for you the esteemed customers to get interactive with the ZESCO staff on any issues you might want them to address for improved service delivery,” he said.
He said that ZESCO interactive with the community of Matero would enhance mutual business relationships.
“I urge ZESCO to ensure that this kind of initiative is extended to all parts of Zambia for the benefits of our customers and stakeholders, ”he said.
And Southern region transmission manager Julius Kampamba said that the power utility company had embarked on expansion projects and had engaged other stakeholders to deliver better services.
He disclosed that one of the projects was the Lusaka multi facility zone which has since been partially opened to service the surrounding areas.
Mr Kampamba however expressed concern over the encroachment of the areas were expansion projects were being carried out.
