RESTORE CULTURAL VALUES, SOCIETY’S CHURCH PRODDED

- By NATION REPORTER

THE church should educate the public on the importance of upholding cultural values in society for them to become good Christians, a Mkushi clergyman has implored.

Saint Mary's Anglican Church Priest Antoney Mulenga said in an interview yesterday that Christianity was based on cultural values, hence, the need for the church to help restore in people their cultural values for them to be good Christians.

Fr Mulenga said there was need for the church to be practical on the matter.

"None of us can be a good Christian without values. People should identify themselves with values and value their faith. Christians should encourage people to have values. That is what Jesus Christ was trying to teach," Fr Mulenga said.

He said the church needed to encourage education on cultural values for a better society.

The society was currently almost running away from cultural values and was trying to promote certain tendencies in Christianity that were not based on cultural values, he said.

He said the church should be in the forefront of imparting knowledge on the importance of upholding cultural values in communities.

None of us can be a good Christian without values. People should identify themselves with values and value their faith. Christians should encourage people to have values. That is what Jesus Christ was trying to teach — Fr Mulenga.
