Southern Cross invests K2m in transport sector

- By BUSINESS REPORTER

SOUTHERN Cross Motors has invested about K 2 million in the transport sector to help grow the industry, says General Manager Tony Voorhout.

Mr Voorhout explained that the investment was prompted by the growing demand from used truck operators who need quality used trucks and the favourable economic environment.

He said the company saw the need to invest in the Zambian market as compared to the Zimbabwean environment due to the huge volumes of opportunities and customer in the local market.

Mr Voorhout was speaking during the launch of SelecTruck franchise at Southern Cross motors in Lusaka. He was optimistic that company would supply customers with quality used trucks in the competitive market. “We continue to expand our business network and one of our most successful business models has been the introduction of affordable pre-owned vehicle to operator in Zambia,” he said.

SelecTruck, he said, would offer a large selection of used trucks, covering brands, models, bodies and will ensure that Zambian received the best of the franchise.

He added that SelecTruck franchise would complement the existing Daimler trucks and buses brand that is sold and supported by Mercedes- Benz trucks, buses and vans

And Bruno Palma head of used trucks Southern Africa said the Zambian market was favourable for conducting business in the transportation industry. Zambia being centrally-located, he said, had a comparative advantage in the southern region.

We continue to expand our business network and one of our most successful business models has been the introduction of affordable pre- owned vehicle to operator in Zambia.” — Mr Voorhout.
