Chinese pledge more support to communities
CHINESE will always support Zambians in various ways to strengthen the relationship between the two countries, Zambia-China Friendship Copperbelt Chapter President Wang Xin has said.
Mr Wang, who is also Vice-President of the Zambia-Chinese Association (ZCA) has since detailed Chinese Companies to give out significant Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes in communities.
He said in an interview that CSR would strengthen the relationship between Chinese investors and the communities, thereby reducing hostilities between the two. ''As Chinese Investors, let us try to strengthen the relationship with the community with significant corporate social responsibility. If you develop a good relationship with the community, they will not even steal from you, but will protect the property of your company.
Kitwe District Commissioner (DC) Binwell Mpundu said separately that Zambians should find a ways of benefiting from the Zambia-China relationship.
Mr Mpundu said China was an economic giant whose investment in Zambia should be embraced and put to good use
"We need to improve. In terms of business and work, we need to find better ways of benefitting from the Zambia- China relationship,'' Mr Mpundu said.
Mr Mpundu also urged the Chinese investors to ignore negative publicity and concentrate on improving their investment and enhancing CSR programmes.
"I am happy that the Chinese companies in Kitwe have started engaging in various CSR programmes. We have had the sinking of boreholes by the Zambia- China Association, sponsoring of some students to colleges and universities,'' he said.
