World Vision pumps K790, 000 in health

WORLD Vision Zambia Luswepo Area Programme (AP) in Isoka has released K790, 000 for the construction of a maternity annex and a mothers’ shelter at Sansamwenje and Kanteshya health posts in the district.

Speaking during site hand over at Sansamwenje health post yesterday, World Vision Zambia official Rita Mapala said a total sum of K400, 000 would be used to construct the maternity Annex at Sansamwenje health post while K 390,000 was for the Construction of a mothers shelter at Katenshya rural health post.

‘‘World Vision Luswepo AP has decided to construct a maternity health post because expecting mothers were shunning giving birth at the health post due to lack of privacy,’’ Ms Mapala said.

Ms Mapala said Sansamwenje rural health post had no recovery room for mothers after delivering apart from the two beds the health facility had.

‘‘We are also constructing a mothers shelter at Katenshya rural health post after learning that relatives of expectant mothers who escorted them for delivery at the clinic had no place to spend nights,” she said.

She said the construction of both Sansamwenje health post maternity shelter and the mothers’ shelter at Katenshya were expected to be completed within four (4) months.

Meanwhile, Government has commended World Vision Zambia Luswepo Area Programme in Isoka for pumping K K790, 000 into health infrastructure. Isoka District Commissioner Evenwell Mutambo said government regarded World Vision Luswepo Area Programme as a great partner in development especially in education, health and water and sanitation sectors.
