CHINESE SINK BOREHOLE AT NKANA EAST CLINIC

- By NATION REPORTER

T HE Zambia-China Association will spend more than K70,000 on drilling and sinking a borehole at Nkana East Clinic in Kitwe in order to improve the water supply at the health institution.

Last year in November, the association spent a similar amount on drilling and sinking of a borehole at Kitwe West Police Post.

Zambia-China Association Copperbelt Chapter President Wang Xin said it was equally important to donate a water pump and borehole at the Nkana East clinic to improve water supply.

"As part of our corporate social responsibility, we think we should donate a water pump and a borehole to the clinic to improve water supply.

"We are yet to put everything together to establish how much will be spent, but it may go over K70,000.

We believe a clinic or indeed anything health institution where people are treated for any illness , should have adequate and reliable water supply,'' Mr Wang said.

And speaking in later in an interview, Kitwe District Commissioner Binwell Mpundu said Chinese were genuine partners in development.

Mr Mpundu said instead of demonizing the Chinese, people should think of how to derive maximum benefits from them.

"Chinese are financially and technologically superior and so we cannot be thinking of chasing them.

The best way is to find ways of maximizing benefits from them.

We need to talk to them on issues which we are not comfortable as Zambians,'' Mr Mpundu said.

Mr Mpundu said the Chinese had been trying their best in terms of corporate social responsibility in many areas including the social sector.
