‘No teargas canisters were found in Vespers’ room’

- By NATION REPORTER

A witness in late University of Zambia (UNZA) student Vespers Shimunzhila’s inquest Bwalya Kalebaila told the court that there was no pallet of tear gas canisters found in the room where the deceased was.

The court heard this during an inquest set to establish the cause of death Vespers which started sitting in the Lusaka Magistrates Court yesterday.

In his testimony Mr. Kalebaila said there was smoke and heat in one of the rooms that was gutted.

He, however, told Coroner Sylvia Munyinya that there was no pallet of tear gas canisters found in the room where the deceased was.

Mr. Kalebaila says the 26 pallets of tear gas canisters were picked in other rooms or places and not the room where Vespers was.

He further said no single shell of a bullet was found in the university premises.

Another witness Panister Shimunzhila said he had known the deceased since she was born and that he was there when the postmortem was being conducted.

The gist of his testimony was to ascertain that the one who died is really Vespers and not anybody else.

After concluding his testimony Coroner Munyinya ordered for the adjournment of the matter so that the medical doctor who conducted the postmortem can be brought before court.

The matter has since been adjourned to March 1 2019.
