Serenje MP determined to tackle early marriages

- By PETER MALASHA

EDUCATION is key to everything people do and development, Serenje's Muchinga Constituency Member of Parliament Howard Kunda has said.

Mr Kunda said this in ian nterview with the Daily Nation when he commented on the plight of the girl-child in relation to education and early marriages.

Mr Kunda said early marriages were taking place because some parents lacked education to understand the importance of educating a girl-child.

Mr Kunda said one way to stop the practice was to ensure as many children as possible, especially girls had access to education.

Mr. Kunda said this was why he had partnered with various organisations in an effort to fight the vice in the constituency.

“They say education is key to success. l think that l would want to also add that education is key to everything that we do.

Because without education that is why we are seeing these early marriages. It is just as a result of not getting on education.

The lawmaker said to promote the girl-child and education for all, government had built many primary schools and he was hopeful the government would come through to complete the three secondary boarding schools under construction in the area so as to have a complete cycle in education system up to Grade 12.
