Kafunsa community school project takes shape

- By JOHN KOMBE

KAFUNSA community school project which was initiated by the community in Rufunsa ward is progressing well, town council chairperson, Mr Bartholomew Kalambalala has said.

Mr Kalambalala told the Daily Nation in an interview that the community had come together to help build the classroom block to cater for school-going children who were walking 10km to the nearest school.

“The project which was initiated by the community will help to make education accessible to the young population in the area. The area has no school and the community came up with the local-driven project to help the children.

“The community approached me and I donated 10X50 kg bags of cement to help in starting the project. They molded bricks that would be enough to construct the first phase of the project which is a 1X2 classroom block. This initiative is very inspiring for a rural community,” Mr Kalambalala said.

Mr. Kalambalala revealed that other well-wishers had come on board after seeing what the community was doing and had begun to help.

“One Ms. Mary Ncube of Lusaka saw a post on my Facebook page and was touched. She has since donated all the needed window frames and door frames for the 1X2 classroom block. The gesture by Ms. Nchube must be emulated by others.

“Giving is one of the ways of gaining fulfilment in life and as such people must learn to give for a noble cause. The Good Samaritan must be commended for her gesture as it will help make education easily accessible to the rural children.

“I therefore appeal to any other well-wishers to come on board and help the rural community in its quest to make education accessible children,” Mr. Kalambalala added.

Mr Kalambalala said people of Kafunsa had shown that communities could identify a need and provide solutions to their own problems.
