| Friday February 15, 2019 RAINS CAUSE HAVOC IN SOLWEZI
A1x4 classroom block and a mathematics department office at Solwezi Day Secondary School have had their roofs blown off after a hailstorm experienced in Solwezi yesterday.
The rains have also soaked almost all the mathematics books for the school.
But teachers who were found at the scene managed to salvage a few books.
The affected classrooms are those used by Grade 12s a situation which disrupted lessons yesterday in the morning as pupils had to be accomodated in other classrooms.
Acting Solwezi District Commissioner, Anthony Fulwe who visited the school expressed saddness at the incident.
Mr Fulwe was however, happy that the incident happened during the night when all the pupils and teachers had knocked off. "The situation is very bad, but the only consolation is that no life has been lost because the incident happened in the night," Mr Fuller said.
He said as an immediate intervention, his office will mobilise about 100 iron sheets so that the works to roof the affected classrooms can commence as soon as possible so as not pupils.
Mr Fulwe said a comprehensive assessment report will be done by officers from the Ministry of general education so that it can be sent to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit for assistant. to disadvantage
