- By KALOBWE BWALYA

TRADERS at Lusaka’s Chibolya market have cried foul over the uncollected Garbage that is piling up. Matilda Mbembya a trader said the uncollected garbage is posing danger to the health of traders and their customers. In an interview with

the Daily Nation, Ms Mbwembya said the traders further complained that the bad smell eminating from the uncollected garbage has negatively affected their business as customers were shunning away from buying their merchandise.

Ms Mbwembya said the traders have since pleaded with the Lusaka City Council to ensure that garbage is collected on time.

Ms Mbwembya observed that most of the waste in skip bins which was supposed to be collected at regular intervals by the LCC’s specialiSed trucks had not been collected for quite some time.

She said the areas that were seriously affected included Chibolya roadside market and Kanyama along Lumumba Road.

“Lusaka City Council (LCC) should come up with an effective routine for collection of waste in most parts of the city if cholera can be eradicated and to achieve the keep Zambia clean campaign grean and health,” said Ms Ms Mbwebya.

Another trader, Mr. Maybin Ziku said the situation has resulted in most of the marketeers disposing waste indiscriminately.

Mr Ziku said skip bins were important for effective waste management because they allowed residents and institutions to organise the bulk collection of a range of waste materials for disposal.
