Make Kalomo realise 1st capital status

-

residents and other stakeholders should be proactive to make the district realise its rich historical status as the first capital of Zambia, Town Council secretary Gladys Lilanda has said.

Addressing white commercial farmers in Kalomo at Mildas Farm recently, Ms Lilanda said she was saddened and concerned with the slow development strides the district was undergoing.

She said stakeholders were not doing enough to develop the district despite government offering an enabling environment for investors to bring development to the area.

“Imagine, this was the first capital of this country but up to now we do not have even any single tarmac township road. The only tarmac we have is the one passing through from Lusaka to Livingstone, the Great North Road, please, I urge all of us to be agents of change and make this district to have a proud and rich historical status it befits,” Ms Lilanda said.

She said the district had lagged behind other districts in development despite the town having been the first administrative capital of the country from 1905-07. Meanwhile, Kalomo Town Council chairperson Coy Makaya urged the white commercial farmers in the district to interact with the local authority to enable them rightly place their social corporate responsibility to needy sectors. Mr Makaya said the council knew the needy areas in the district and that farmers’ support could enormously supplement the local authority’s service provision to the community.

And Kalomo District Commissioner Cosmas Chiiba commended the commercial farmers for their financial and material contributions towards the commemorations of national days in the district.

The farmers pledged to partner with the council especially on the grading of some feeder roads. - ZANIS.
