Kafue youths run amok over TC’s transfer

- By ANNIE ZULU

THERE was chaos at Kafue Town Council yesterday after a group of unknown Youths locked the place and prevented workers from entering the building demanding that the Local Government Service Commission immediately rescinds its decision to transfer Town Council Secretary Aaron Kamalondo to Mongu.

And the Patriotic Front (PF) in Kafue has distanced itself from the fracas.

But PF Kafue District youth Chairperson Wellingtone Mwansa told the Daily Nation in an interview that the PF youths in the district were disciplined and respects the appointing authority’s decision to transfer Mr Kamalondo from Kafue to Mongu.

Mr Mwansa said the riotous youths were just thugs from the streets who thought they would benefit if Mr Kamalondo stayed.

“As PF in Kafue, we would like to distance ourselves from what happened. We don’t know those youths who were causing confusion, our youths are disciplined and we have welcomed the decision by the authority to transfer Mr Kamalondo. Those youths who were rioting are street thugs,” Mr Mwansa said.

The youths who were demanding to be addressed by Local Government Service Commission Chairman Amos Musonda arrived at the Civic at 07:42 hours and ordered 4 Council Police Officers who were manning the building to immediately lock the entrance of the Civic centre and leave.

Efforts by the council police officers to challenge the ‘youths’ failed as they were overpowered by a hoard of unruly youths.

The youths vowed not to allow new Kafue Town Council Secretary Isaac Mwiche Mudala to enter the Civic centre building.

Calm has since been restored at the Civic but the youths have vowed to continue with their protest until the demands are met.
