Chipembe Township to get piped water

- By ALFRED TEMBO

NYIMBA District Council plans to connect Chipembe Township in Nyimba will soon be connected to the water supply system to enable people access to clean water, says councillor, Moses Lungu.

Mr Lungu said access to running water would also help improve and hygiene sanitation in the area.

He said the water project undertaken by Nyimba District Council, started last year and was expected to be completed in April this year. Mr. Lungu said in an interview that all four sections of the township would be connected to running water. “We have four sections in Chipembe Township. And all will be connected to the Eastern Water and Sewerage Company grid (EWSCO) and we expect this to enhance access to clean drinking water and for general use in homes. We started last year but by April this year all will be place,” said Mr. Lungu.

And Mr Lungu said some villages in his ward were in need of boreholes especially with the rapid increase of population in the area.

“Our challenge is to secure boreholes for at least five villages namely Silozi, Kambani, Sikalaluka, January and Chapamutu Village.

“We are hoping that we will get at least five of the 40 mobilised by the district council under a World Vision programme. “This will help our people who are travelling long distances to source for drinking water. “And based on their situations I helped them apply now we are waiting for responses hoping for the best. I am confident that these people will be considered,” Mr Lungu said.
