CHIEF LUMPUMA ‘CRIES’ FOR BOARDING SCHOOL
Lumpuma of the Lamba people in Lufwanyama is worried that the construction of Lumpuma boarding school which started more than 10 years ago has been abandoned.
The traditional ruler said he was worried that construction had stalled despite several reminders from him and his subjects to the Government.
He was speaking at the weekend when ZCCM- Investments Holding Plc and the Esther Lungu Foundation Trust representatives paid a courtesy call on him before handing over 200 bags of fertiliser to cooperatives.
Chief Lumpuma said his area needed a boarding school because some pupils stayed in distant places and would find it ideal to stay in school.
He also pointed out that the Nkana-Lumpuma- Mukutuma road was in a deplorable state and needed urgent road rehabilitation works. "Apart from the deplorable state of roads, the stalled Lumpuma boarding school project has been a source of concern for me and my subjects.
This project has been abandoned.
It started more than 10 years ago, but it has been abandoned and government does not even talk about it,'' Chief Lumpuma said.
Chief Lumpuma was, however happy that ZCCM-IH in collaboration with the Esther Lungu Foundation had been able to give out fertiliser to women groups in his chiefdom.
He said it was a momentous occasion for the people in his chiefdom as the collaborative efforts between ZCCM- IH and the Esther Lungu Foundation Trust were empowering women and girls to contribute towards food security through agriculture.
"Apart from being care givers in their homes, women are also food preservers in the communities.
We, as a country, therefore continue to rely on women and their hard work in ensuring that households are secured with food,'' he said
