KAMBWILI EXPELLED?

- BY SILUMESI MALUMO AND BENNIE MUNDANDO

NDC consultant Chishimba Kambwili has reportedly been expelled from the party on racism and xenophobic attacks on an Indian national.

Mr Kambwili also faces arrest over his xenophobic remarks against the Indian national who was driving a compactor at a road construction site on the Copperbelt.

The Roan lawmaker however told the Daily Nation that “I will not apologise for anything because I did the right thing”.

Party secretary general, Mwenya Musenge is said to have attributed Mr Kambwili’s expulsion to his being difficult to work with.

Efforts to reach both Mr Kambwili and Mr Musenge proved futile by press time.

NDC spokesperson, Eric Chanda also yesterday announced that he had stepped down from his position, without giving reasons.

And Zambia Police spokesperson, Esther Katongo said police were investigating Mr Kambwili’s controversial remarks.

Ms Katongo said that utterances or writing with intent of hatred, ridicule or race and tribe was an offence with maximum 2 years of imprisonment.

She said the acts by Mr Kambwili were unacceptable and would be investigated thoroughly.

Meanwhile, Mr. Musenge has openly blasted Mr. Kambwili “for lacking leadership qualities and his bulldozing antics”, saying the party was not about him but everyone else involved.

He warned that Mr. Kambwili’s role in the party was nothing more than being a consultant.

Mr Musenge told Mr. Kambwili that his remarks were unfortunate as they were promoting xenophobia contrary to the spirit of unity which had characterized Zambia since independence.

A month ago, Mr. Musenge warned Mr. Kambwili in one of the party WhatsApp groups that he risked having his consultancy services withdrawn from the party if he continued sidelining and undermining his authority as founding secretary general.

And Mr Kambwili has maintained that he would not apologise for his xenophobic attacks against an Indian national because he did the right thing.

Mr Kambwili was captured in a video rebuking an Indian national who was driving a compactor at a road construction site on the Copperbelt.
