- By NATION REPORTER

GOVERNMENT through the office of the Vice President is very much committed to providing assistance to people affected by natural calamities in many ways to ease their burden says acting Mwinilunga District Commissioner Mwiya Tulani.

Mr Tulani has appealled to people in the area affected by natural disasters to report to his office for assistance through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU).

Mr Tulani said this iyesterday when he visited two families in Kabanda and Musela hill whose houses were damaged by torrential rains over the weekend.

"It is only by reporting these cases to my office that victims of disasters can be assisted through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit," Mr Tulani said.

He said the government will ensure that people’s living standards were uplifted and urged the residents to support and work together with his office to achieve this goal.

He also appealed to the people in the district to use the right building materials whenever they embarked on the construction of houses or any other structures.

“People should also be following the right procedure when it comes to building,” s he added.

The two affected families who were assisted with 50 kilogram bags of white maize each thanked the government for the concern and appealed for quick action from the DMMU.
