ICC threats nonsensical - Musoma

- By BENNIE MUNDANDO

ZAMBIA Republican Party leader, Wright Musoma, has described threats by the opposition alliance to report President Edgar Lungu to the International Criminal Court, nonsensical and a manifestation of desperate individuals devoid of reasoning.

The opposition alliance on Wednesday threatened to drag President Edgar Lungu to the ICC for allegedly presiding over political violence against his rivals and blamed him for increased violent crackdowns on opponents, including the main opposition leader, Hakainde Hichilema.

Speaking to the Daily Nation yesterday, Mr. Musoma said the “ghost that tormented the UPND after losing the 2016 elections had come back to haunt them, this time extending to nine other visionless opposition party leaders.”

He said the UPND and its alliance partners must save the country from continued embarrassment from their desperate attempts to force regime change by using the back door.

He described the threats as empty and nonsensical and that they could only be entertained by an imaginary kangaroo court where UPND members formed the jury. Mr. Musoma said no rightful-thinking citizen would entertain the cause championed by the opposition alliance partners as they had lost reasoning and slowly cascading into mediocrity churned by desperate and power hungry individuals living in fantasy.

“Do they think the ICC is made up of UPND members as judges? Why should they waste time for such a noble court to discuss their trivialities?” he queried.

“It is utter nonsense for Mr. Hichilema and his cohorts to continue embarrassing our country to the outside world by pushing a regime-change agenda using wrong methods because elections are won through the ballot,” he said.

“If there was a person who needed to be dragged to the ICC, it is Mr. Hichilema himself for atrocities against humanity in Namwala in 2016 and so, he should stop hallucinating about reporting President Lungu because even the Sesheke confusion was caused by his arrogance from obeying police advice,” observed Mr. Musoma.

And 3rd Liberation Movement (3RD LM) president Enoch Tonga charged that opposition alliance leader Elias Chipimo had run out of ideas.

“If Milupi and his bogus alliance thinks by reporting President Lungu to the ICC they will be considered and score justice, they are cheating themselves. They will come back with shame and empty hands,” said Tonga.

“If there is anything wrong President Lungu and his team have done, they can be prosecuted right here because we are a sovereignty state.

They should not waste our precious time in reporting internal matters that can easily be handled by us here to some illegitimate and very segregative international justice body,” he said.
