NDC implodes

... as Kambwili fires Musenge

- By LINDA SOKO TEMBO and MUKOSELA KASALWE

DIVISIONS have rocked the NDC with Secretary-General Mwenya Musenge seemingly becoming a loner after being fired by Chishimba Kambwili.

First, it was Mr Musenge who had fired Mr Kambwili from the party but has now been fired by him.

This has erupted a leadership battle as the two leaders both claim to have formed NDC.

Despite having posed as a mere consultant for the party, Mr Kambwili insists that he formed NDC and that there was no one who could hound him out of the party.

He has maintained that Mr Musenge was out and had since appointed Charles Kabwita as the new secretary general.

And Mr Kabwita is reported to have rejected the appointment as new SG.

Mr Kabwita is said to have turned down the offer, saying that Kambwili had no such powers as a consultant to make such an appointment.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka yesterday, NDC vice president, Joseph Akafumba, disclosed that Mr Musenge’s decision has since been declared null and void.

“The party’s position is that we are abound to follow the constitution to the latter and anything done outside the provisions of the constitution cannot be supported by the party and it’s an assault on the constitution rendering such an action null and void.

Mr Akafumba said Mr Kambwili maintains the position in the party adding that NDC would continue to engage him as a consultant.

Meanwhile Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini has reserved ruling on a matter where Patriotic Front Roan lawmaker, Chishimba Kambwili’s standing in Parliament has been questioned after he allegedly confessed that he was the NDC leader.

Dr Matibini said the issues raised by PF Malambo lawmaker Makebi Zulu on whether or not Mr Kambwili

was in order to be in the House needed to be thoroughly studied.

Mr Zulu said Article 72 of the Constitution demanded that any member of the House elected on a particular party ticket could not cross or join another political party.

He said he was in possession of the video in which Mr Kambwili was claiming to be the NDC leader and that Mr Musenge could not fire him.
