MISGUIDED OUTBURST

- MARVIN CHANDA MBERI, Youth Rights Activist. Lusaka.

Dear Editor,

THE recent public misconduct portrayed by my elder brother Chishimba Kambwili needs to be tamed before it goes out of hand as it has potential to lower the credentials of the country.

He needs to draw a line between domestic politics where his abusive language against President Edgar Lungu in the name of tribal cousinship.

We cannot take to be business as usual, fold our arms and let Mr. Kambwili to graduate from the usual tribal and hate politics into xenophobia as he will let us shoot ourselves in the back foot.

The reported video which has gone viral has clearly exposed him that his opposition to the current Government is not out of ideology but as it is, a viable means of driving his hate agenda.

Although the basis of attacking the light skinned machine operator, it is not practically possible to trace his origin using colour as there are thousands of such people who have known no other country apart from Zambia.

It was very strange that the person who is well educated and quite exposed in matters of policy issues could allow himself to be paraded on social media to show arrogance of ignorance.

Having served in various Government portfolios which inter alia includes the Ministries of Labour, Foreign Affairs, Mr Kambwili should try to use sober means without resorting to actions which could potentially jeopardise International relations.

As a person’s seeking to aspire to the high office, in the unlikely event he is elected, he will inevitably become Diplomat number one with the mammoth task of promoting friendliness between Zambia and other countries.

If he had grievances with particular nationals there is a well-designed procedures in which he can utilise to air his grievances.

One of them is the diplomatic protest which is known as a “demarche” and he has not told the nation as to whether he has exhausted these remedies provided by international law.

In addition, Zambia being a member of the International Community has committed herself to a number of treaty obligations. It is very likely that his researched imaginations that he can chase the foreign nations may have an implication on matters of treaty obligations which conversely may haunt our future generations.

This is because it is not right for any person, including the President, to unilaterally terminate the treaty by a decree without following the procedure provided by international law.

It is our sincere hope and prayer that in future Mr. Kambwili would warn up and learn to consult before embarrassing himself on matters of serious concern such as this one.

It is clear that Mr. Kambwili’s credentials as a self-proclaimed consultant has been brought into ridicule by his own negligence to take due diligence to avoid making the emotive decision such as this one.

I can only wish the alleged Consultant can warn up and learn to research or seek professional advice from the reservoir of the pool of learned men and women if he is to relevant on the political plane.
