LIVINGSTONE CITY COUNCIL K75.7 BUDGET APPROVED
099.00. has approved Livingstone City Council’s 2019 budget to the tune of K75, 790,
Last year, the council collected K58.5 million out of K74.9 million budget estimates for 2018 which translated into 78 per cent collection efficiency.
Council public relations manager Melvin Mukela said this in a press statement issued in Livingstone yesterday.
Mr Mukela said the development had elated the local authority because it had not reached such a target in a long time.
Mr Mukela said the improvement in the revenue collection was as a result of the measures taken such as the formation of the revenue task force and enhanced sensitisation of the public on the need for them to pay property rates, levies and other fees.
“This massive improvement in the collection of revenue brought about infrastructure development in the district,” he said.
Mr Mukela said all the 17 wards received their 2018 Ward Development Fund amounting to K120, 000.00 each. He said the projects worked on included the grading of 38.75 kilometres of roads, creation and clearing of drainages, installation of culverts and installation of energy saving solar streetlights.
Other major projects undertaken under the Constituency Development Fund were construction of Mwandi Community School ablution block, Ngwenya Market ablution block and construction of Natebe Community School semi-detached house.
Construction projects included Maramba Primary School ablution block, Victoria Falls Clinic and Dambwa North Police Post at a total cost of K673, 217.16.
Under the 20 percent Capital Equalisation Fund, various projects were undertaken including construction of council garage boundary wall, Libuyu Market ablution block, Maramba Housing Council office block, rehabilitation of Victoria Hall and the Library and construction of Fire brigade dormitories.
