LIVINGSTONE COPS NAB OVER 50 YOUNGSTERS

- By ANDREW MUKOMA

in Livingstone on Saturday afternoon nabbed more than 50 young boys and girls between the ages of 13 and 16 for allegedly indulging in illicit activities.

The children were nabbed from various locations after a tip off and complaints from the public.

Southern Province Police Commissioner Diamond Likashi confirmed the development to journalists in Livingstone yesterday.

"I wish to confirm that our Livingstone-based officers arrested about 80 youngsters in an operation along John Hunt Way, around the museum, Mukuni Park. ‘This was prompted by the information to the effect that, children, our young stars between ages of 13 and 16, every Saturday and Friday between 15:00 hours and 19:00 hours indulge themselves in alcohol drinking," he said.

"As a result, we have nabbed more than 50 of them and they are being screened and some have attained their Grade 12 while others are still in school," said Mr Likashi.

He stated that after the screening process, the police command will invite parents and head teachers from all the schools in Livingstone so that they could conduct a counselling exercise together.

And Mr has advised parents to start mentoring their children in a good way.

He said that parents of some of the children who were nabbed are well to do because they were well looked after by their parents.
