‘Declare Kambwili parly seat vacant’

- By FRANK MUKUPA

MORE opposition leaders have demanded that Roan Constituency parliamentary seat held by Chishimba Kambwili should be declared vacant as Mr Kambwili has stated publicly that he is a president of another party.

Speaking in interviews yesterday, the political party leaders also called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to also promptly set a date for a by-election in the constituency.

Zambia Republican Party president (ZRP) Wright Musoma said declaring the seat vacant was justified because Mr Kambwili, who was expelled from the PF, had already declared himself a president of National Democratic Congress (NDC) party.

“Government should not dance to the confusion of Kambwili, his declaration on social media (that he was NDC president) was enough to declare the Roan seat vacant,” Mr Musoma said.

Mr Musoma said Mr Kambwili was hanging onto the Roan seat for continued monetary gain.

“Mr Kambwili wants to portray himself as a clean person just because he is in opposition, opposition does not make anyone clean, if you are corrupt then you are corrupt. Leaving government or being fired from cabinet and joining opposition does not cleanse you and I don’t know why we are making him clean by listening to him,” Mr Musoma said.

He said people were justifying that Mr Kambwili had membership in different political parties which was unlawful and that he should be cited for lying before the court because when he was asked about the matter, he lied that he only belonged to one political party.

Meanwhile, 3rd Liberation Movement (3rd LM) president Enock Tonga said his party was worried with the judicial system because it was well known for dragging cases.

Mr Tonga said he had many examples of cases, some of them simple ones, which had been dragging for many years.

“We as Liberation (Movement), we are saying we will be giving individuals timeframe within weeks to deal with such cases, as head of state Enock Tonga will not give space to chicken behavior,” Mr Tonga said.

He said Mr Kambwili should not even set foot in parliament when he had openly told everyone that he was a leader of another political party.

Mr Kambwili wants to portray himself as a clean person just because he is in opposition, opposition does not make anyone clean, if you are corrupt then you are corrupt.
