DAPP wins kudos over employment efforts
DEVELOPMENT Aid from People to People (DAPP) enterprise has created employment for over 224 people across the country, Mkushi District Commissioner Luka Mwamba has said.
Mr. Mwamba said this during the official opening of new DAPP second hand clothes store in Mkushi.
Mr. Mwamba said the second hand clothes business was growing in the informal sector throughout the value chain and that the business had provided jobs to many unemployed people in sub-Sahara Africa. He said for over 30 years now, DAPP Zambia had been dealing in second hand clothes and shoes to support as well as fund over 100 development projects from its surplus together with other partnerships.
Mr. Mwamba said the second-hand clothes contributed to the efforts of environmental protection as it saved on water and land used to produce cotton lint and rubber for the production of new clothes as well as shoes.
"Today, we are witnessing the re-opening of this shop at a new premise. This shop is among the 33 second hand clothes and shoes shops that DAPP Zambia has in 29 districts of nine provinces of Zambia.
"The enterprise has employed more than 224 staff across the country and serves many other chain traders who buy from DAPP for reselling," Mr. Mwamba said.
And manager for DAPP Mpika, Serenje, and Mkushi Merriam Musonda appealed to residents to visit the store so as to buy quality and affordable clothes.
