Beware of car criminals – Kitwe DC
CRIMINALS, some of the foreigners, are breaking into vehicles at Mukuba Mall in Kitwe, much to the chagrin of shoppers.
A number of motorists have complained that their vehicles had been broken into as they were in the mall doing their shopping.
They have since appealed to management at the mall to tighten security particularly in the car park.
Kitwe District Commissioner Bidwell Mbundu said he had received several reports about motorists losing their valuables in their cars.
Mr Mbundu said it seemed the criminals were foreign nationals who were breaking into parked vehicles through the windows.
He said the criminals were using ‘strange’ techniques to gain access into people's vehicles and that one foreigner has been arrested.
Mr Mbundu said alert shoppers and passers-by at Mukuba mall managed to apprehend one criminal who forcefully entered a parked car adding that the suspect was currently in police custody. ''I wish to confirm that the police have received such reports of criminals suspected to be of foreign nationality who are breaking into cars with so much sophistication and a few people have already been affected,'' Mr Mpundu.He since urged members of the public to be vigilant of criminals and avoid leaving valuables in the car.
