‘I’m ready to work with opposition’
RE-ELECTED Munyama Ward Patriotic Front (PF) councillor Gregory Makungu says he is ready to work with the opposition to deliver development to the area.
Mr Mukungu, who lost the Munyama Ward seat to UPND’s Harron Chibwana in 2016 elections but reclaimed it this time around, said he had always worked with the opposition when he served as a councillor for the area from 2011 to 2016.
He said in an Interview in Mkushi yesterday that he was open to advice from both the PF and the opposition aimed at uplifting the living standards of the people of Munyama.
“(I) have always worked with members of the opposition because when I was councilor, my Parents Teachers Association (PTA) chairman for Munyama Primary School was UPND ward councillor and I did replace him,” Mr Makungu said.
He said he would welcome any ideas from stakeholders aimed at introducing new farming technologies to improve agricultural activities in Munyama which was a farming area.
As a politician, my core business is to serve the people so I will do my best to listen to people’s advice,” Mr Makungu said.
Meanwhile, Mr Makungu said he had provided enhanced security, upgrading of Munyama primary to a secondary school and acquiring title deeds for two farms in the area.
He said he would lobby for a police post to be built using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to reduce crime in the area.
Mr Makungu also said he would work on upgrading Munyama Primary School to a secondary school to mitigate the challenge of access to higher education in the area.
“Pupils in the area have a challenge of accessing higher education in town where they do not have accommodation so I would create a conducive environment for them to pursue further studies,” Mr Makungu said.
