Fix match fixers

-

Dear Editor,

MATCH fixing is a serious offence which should not be allowed to rear its ugly head in any society.

We have seen events in which some officials have been jailed while others have been banned for life in soccer activities.

Mt concern is against the backdrop that the

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is disappointed with some of its members who are allegedly linked to a match fixing scandal which has resulted in the banning of former FAZ vice president Bornface Mwamelo. He has been handed a life time ban from participating in all football activities by FIFA.

Accordingly, the FAZ ethics committee chairperson Kephas Katongo said the association will carry out its own investigations based on the report from FIFA to identify individuals who were not identified by FIFA but were directly involved in the match fixing scandal which is reported to have happened in 2010.

It is disappointing that some individuals engaged in dealings which ended up denting the image of the Zambian game.

There is need to uphold standards because of late we have been hearing of many of our brothers finding themselves at crossroads with the international law which is FIFA.

This is not good for our country because it is not good for the association and it is the reason why the ethics committee exist at FAZ and at FIFA.

It is also incumbent to ensure those wishing to contest for the FAZ presidency to prepare for an ethics text which will determine their suitability

So individuals engaging in bad habits which are destroying the image of the local game should stop because they risk being sanctioned by the ethics committee which is an independent body.

RICHWELL MULONDA, Kitwe.

There is need to uphold standards because of late we have been hearing of many of our brothers finding themselves at crossroads with the international law which is FIFA.
