Don’t politicize Mulongoti’s illness - envoy

-

BY SILUMESI MALUMO

THE illness of Peoples Party president Mike Mulongoti should not be politicised and allow him privacy he deserves, Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba has said.

Mr Mwamba said Mr Mulongoti was re-admitted in hospital last week and was continuing to receive specialized medical treatment but that he needed privacy and that his illness should not be politicised.

“To his knowledge no press statement have been issued by Mr Mulongoti and I advise the media to get in touch with him or Mrs. Betty Mulongoti for clarification,” he said.

In January 2019, President Lungu directed that Mr Mulongoti be evacuated to South Africa for specialist treatment.

And Mr Mwamba said the treatment and review of Everett Chongo, the University of Zambia student who suffered injuries during a riot last year, Mr Mulongoti had gone very well.

He said Everett was in South Africa last week for medical review for doctors to ascertain and observe the continued healing of her spine and legs.

He said after the review, doctors were happy with the tremendous progress made so far.

Everett sustained the injuries to her spine and legs when she jumped from the 3rd floor of her University of Zambia hostel.
