- By AARON CHIYANZO and MUKOSELA KASALWE

HAKAINDE Hichilema and Prime Television stage managed the purported assassination attempt on him in Sesheke, says Patriotic Front Secretary- General Davis Mwila.

In a letter addressed to the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) dated February, 18 2019, Mwila said “a section of the footage of the story in question that the TV station aired under the headline ‘ARMED STATE POLICE AND PF CADRES CHASE OF HH IN THICK FOREST TOOK 8 HOURS’, UPND leader Mr Hichilema is captured directing the cameraman’.

Mr Mwila stated that Mr Hichilema turned to face the camera as he commandingly directed, “You’ve got the story”?

He said that clip implicated Prime TV involvement of Mr Hichilema in the production of the footage and the report and that it strongly suggested he was the Director and Executive Producer in the filming of the footage. Mr Mwila also questioned how a media house based a headline story on an uncorroborated “official position” of a political party, saying that ‘unless the media house is an extension of the said political party’.

Meanwhile Major Richard Kachingwe says it is sad that the three church mother bodies seem to be influenced by Hakainde Hichilema.

And University of Zambia UNZA) political scientist Alex Ng’oma has charged that disgraced individuals were the only ones supporting irresponsible Journalism which can ignite civil war like what transpired in Rwanda during the Genocide,

Maj Kachingwe was reacting to the church mother bodies’ continued siding with the UPND agenda.

This follows the stance by the church mother bodies to condemn the banning of Prime TV by the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) after the UPND leader took the same stance.

Maj Kachingwe said that it was a big problem for the church mother bodies to be seen to be biased because they should not be influenced by politicians. He said that the church was supposed to be a mirror of society and that it should not take sides quickly. Maj Kachingwe advised the church to think twice before issuing statements, saying that they should be free of political influence.

Meanwhile, PF Media Director Sunday Chanda said there was need to allow the due process of the law to take its course.

Mr Chanda said the gravity of fake and inflammatory broadcasting should not be under rated.

He noted that following the suspension of Prime TV Broadcast Licence, there had been a flurry of negative reactions from partisan quarters.

He said there were many examples around the world of inaccurate, partisan and inflammatory reporting that have set nations ablaze.
