Prime TV is UPND tool

- PETER LIKASHI.

Dear Editor,

I AM on record in your newspaper demanding the censure of Prime TV for the highly insidious character of current news reporting.

In my last letter I pointed out that one of the main anchors was not only a UPND cadre but was actually a member of the opposition media team.

His presence compromised the station to a very large extent and anybody who watched knew without any doubt that the station was either financed or fully supported by the UPND. Zambians would feel the same way if Patriotic Front Media Director Sunday Chanda was to be hired as anchor on ZNBC.

My worry is that as Zambians we are taking our peace for granted. I have seen some of the things posted on social media which are far from reality and only me4ant to inflame and incite people.

Some of the so-called news blogs are full of lies, hatred and malice with very little if any substance at all.

This is very worrying because those responsible do not have the best interest of the country at heart. They have selfish ambitions hoping that they can realise regime change by posting misleading and totally false stories.

They can be rest assured that regime change secured by false pretences will never last. That has been the situation many countries where a few people have attempted to change the will of the majority by peddling lies and slander.

It is true that those defending Prime TV were not themselves affected by the biased reporting, insults and negative coverage, if they had been they would not be defending wanton unprofessionalism. If anything the current situation has been brought about because the Government and IBA failed to take heed at the right time when many people complained about the biased coverage and obvious propaganda by the UPND.

Unlike the ZNBC which displays a modicum of civility and appropriate language prime TV had no restraint in the use of insults and abusive language.

Let us hope that IBA has now learnt a lesson to be more diligent to bring erring stations to book and make sure that the situation does not deteriorate to a level where they are forced to suspend a station
