‘KALABA COPPER MINING PROJECT TO ATTRACT ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES’

multi-million dollar investment in Kalaba copper mining project by Zamsort Limited in Senior Chief Sailunga’s chiefdom will open up the area for more social and economic activities once fully operationa­l, says Acting Mwinilunga District Commission­er Mwiya Thulani.

Mr Thulani expressed happiness with the progress made so far on the constructi­on works of the project which was at 98 percent.

He stated that the district was receiving its share of social and economic growth due to government’s sound investment policies.

"I can confirm to the public that constructi­on works at Kalaba mine is on course and so far, it has reached at 98 percent complete.

"This is very impressive because it will open up the district to more economic activities," he said.

He said this in Mwinilunga yesterday during a site visit at Kalaba Copper Mine to appreciate the investment and check on the progress.

Mr Thulani has since urged people in the district especially young ones to embrace and support such huge investment government was bringing to the area through other stakeholde­rs and use them to their advantage and improve their living standards. And Senior Chief Sailunga expressed happiness to note that the mine would soon start its full operation and create jobs for the local people in the area. The Traditiona­l Leader appealed to Zamsort Limited to consider employing the local people first if they are to appreciate the investment.

Zamsort Limited a Zambian company has so far invested over US$12 million in its Kalaba Copper Mining project in Senior Chief Sailunga in Mwinilunga district whose constructi­on works have reached 98 percent complete.
