State to help homeless Mkushi families

GOVERNMENT through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) will soon help about 10 families in Mkushi whose houses collapsed following a heavy down pour.

Mkushi District Commission­er Luka Mwamba who also chairman for DMMU disclosed this to the Daily Nation in interview yesterday.

Mr. Mwamba said the DMMU had quickly moved in and that national coordinato­r Chanda Kabwe and Central Province Permanent Secretary Bernard Chomba were in the district to access the damage.

Mr. Mwamba said the Bill of Quantity (BOQ) and other logistics had already been put in place for the dispatch of materials to the district.

Mr. Mwamba said he expected the ow of the materials such as cement and iron sheets to be delivered in the district during the week.

“So far we are expecting 150 bags of cement and 250 iron sheets of different sizes. We are also expecting tents and blankets for the affected families," Mr. Mwamba said.

Mr Mwamba urged ltala compound residents to alert the administra­tion on houses collapsing due to natural disasters.

Mr. Mwamba said he had noted with concern that some houses had collapsed in the area but these had not been reported to his office except for a few. Mr. Mwamba said people should not fear his office because it was open to the public and he was a servant of the people.
