Teachers in K100, 000 windfall
PATRIOTIC Front Kwacha Member of Parliament Joe Malanji has deposited K100,000 revolving fund for teachers in his constituency.
Mr Malanji said in Kitwe that the initiatives to introduce revolving funds to teachers, taxi drivers, marketeeers and other players in the informal sector was to ensure that they improve their businesses and reduce dependence on exploitative money lending institutions.
During a meeting with teachers and head teachers from the schools in the constituency at Valley View Secondary School in Kitwe, Mr Malanji said he had decided to start a revolving fund with K100, 000 to see how it would work out.
"I will try my best to ensure that I support you in various ways. So it is for this reason that I am depositing the K100, 000 as a revolving fund for you, the teachers in my constituency.
"You are teachers and so, I expect you to lead the way in ensuring that this revolving fund grows and benefit each one of you. It should not be a source of conflict within yourselves,'' Mr Malanji said Mr Malanji, who is Foreign Affairs Minister, urged school management and the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) to work together especially on projects aimed at improving the standards of the schools.
“I will be ready to support projects which aim at improving people's lives in the community. So projects which aim at improving the standards of the school, I will support them,” he said.
