Regime change not panacea to economic challenges - ZDDM
IT is ridiculous for any politician to propose regime change as the solution to ambia s economic challenges, says
ZDDM president Edwin Sakala.
Mr Sakala said if that was true, the changes that had taken place since independence would have been enough.
Speaking to the Daily Nation yesterday, Mr Sakala said only a kindergarten politician would fool himself into believing that regime change was the only solution to overcoming the hurdles that Zambia was going through.
He was reacting to All People’s Congress (APC) leader Nason Msoni who has been quoted as saying Zambia was slowly degenerating into an ungovernable state because of President Edgar Lungu’s style of leadership which was allegedly characterised by lawlessness.
Mr. Msoni said the only viable option to rectify Zambia’s financial crisis was regime change, adding that calling for early elections would help solve the situation.
But Mr. Sakala said he was appalled by Mr. Msoni’s thinking because his suggestion had no aorta of truth, save for empty political rhetoric from an individual who has to talk to make himself relevant to the political arena.
“Before Mr. Msoni can lecture to us on what needs to be done, let him tell us what he has done as a politician as a contribution to the development of this country apart from making a plethora of statements while hiding in other countries.
We have changed governments since independence but why do we still have these challenges if that is the only solution?
“The problem we have in this country is that we have immature politicians who are failing to practice mature politics based on competition of ideas,” said Mr Sakala.
He said instead of singing the regime change song, the best was to find common ground for the country’s challenges and discuss them.
